What can you do while waiting for Iftar?

What do you actually do while waiting for Iftar? Read? Watch tv?
Here are some of the ideas on how to keep busy and distracted in the hours before Iftar:

1. Buy all necessities for Iftar and Suhoor
Avoid the last-minute rush of getting ingredients for meals.

2. Power nap
Readjust your body clock with a power nap so you can be fresh for Iftar and have energy the next morning to wake up for Suhoor.

3. Spend more quality time with your children
Help them with their homework, tell them stories and explain the benefits of Ramadan to them.

4. Organize
Work on organizing your personal space, your clothes or books collections.

5. Prepare for Iftar
Try as early as possible so that everything is at hand when breaking the fast, leaving you with enough time to pray.

6. Prepare the next morning’s Suhoor
This can be done while you are waiting for Iftar and store it in a cool, dry place.

7. Pit your dates
If you soak dates in milk or water and eat them for Iftar, pit the dates in the early afternoon so they are soft.

8. Strengthen bond with others
If you are having Iftar at the mosque, get there early to meet with friends and community members, as this is a great opportunity to share your thoughts on Ramadan and its values with others.

9. Make a doa
While waiting for Iftar, make a doa (supplication) for Allah to give you and your family the sincerity, strength, motivation and wisdom to make the most of Ramadan.

10. Enhance the community spirit
Cook a little more of your special Ramadan dishes and send your neighbours Iftar snacks to enhance the community spirit. Let your children feel the happiness of Ramadan by including them in the preparation and delivery of dishes that you send over to friends and neighbours.

11. Make handmade crafts
If you are good at crafts, make special handmade Eid cards or decorations for friends and family.

12. Make plans for Aidil Fitri
Use the time before Iftar to plan interesting things to do with your neighbours, friends and relatives for the Eid Al Fitr celebrations.

13. Earn extra pocket money
